Celebrating nature
Mother Earth is still providing the colour!
This beautiful winter flowering plant, with its antique cream, dusky pink and green flowers has ancient mythological traditions that date back to poems in Medieval Latin by Titus Maccius Platus in 184BC.
Hellebores were used as an elixir of youth by herbalists in the Middle Ages and its ground roots were used to bring on sneezing to ward off evil spirits ( it’s called Nieswurz or sneezewort in German) - both pretty risky as all parts of the plant are poisonous

It was even believed that standing in its powdered form would make you invisible.
Also known as the Oracle Rose, it was believed it could forecast the weather. If you put twelve buds in water before Christmas, representing the months of the year, whichever bud opened to a flower on Christmas Eve would signal good weather for that particular month the following year.

It’s so fascinating learning about folklore and beliefs around plants and flowers and gives us a insight into the deep connection our ancestors had with nature - and still do in many parts of the world. Wearing a clean perfume, made from botanical ingredients, brings us a step closer.
