Frequently asked questions about natural scent

Creating and using natural perfume is a relatively new trend in the world of mainstream beauty and fragrance (it’s been in existence forever, of course, but in the last decades has been pretty niche) and we are often asked why bother searching and opting for a fragrance that celebrates the best of natural ingredients when there are already plenty of other types on the market. So we thought we’d answer some of these (very valid) questions here. If you have others, do get in touch info@jonesandmodha.co.uk

You say it’s for people who love the planet. What do you mean by that?

We believe in treading lightly on this earth and if there’s a choice to select products that have less environmental impact, then we’ll go for them. Every little helps. So when we created Jones & Modha, we wanted a scent that didn’t contain any synthetic chemicals (see above) as they’re not good for the sustainability of our eco system. Think about where they go after use.

Harvesting plants and flowers for your scent might not be great for the planet?

Agree - that’s why we chose to work with partners that consciously source the essential oils from sustainable crops as being natural doesn’t mean sustainable always.

And what about packaging?

We also thought hard about packaging and chose not to cover our boxes in cellophane, for example, as we firstly don’t particularly like what it’s made of as well as wondering where it goes after it’s been thrown in the bin. We made sure our sample bottles are made of glass too (as are our full size bottles) as it’s too easy to go for the cheap option and have plastic ones, but again, where do they end up?

Does being natural affect the quality of the perfume?

No - but of course we would say that wouldn’t we! Well, if you try Jones & Modha, we feel confident you’ll find a depth and quality of scent. The notes are exquisitely and carefully blended to create a multi layered story. And, as the ingredients are all natural, they react with your skin’s oils and create a unique scent, so your won’t smell like everyone else.

Does it last - I find natural perfumes don’t tend to?

Yes it does, but as with all perfumes, it depends on the individual and what you mean by lasting. Some Jones & Modha fans say it lasts all day, others feel they need to reapply after a few hours or half a day or so. What we do find is that it develops beautifully during the time you wear it going from an uplifting citrus top note and with time setting into warmer, spicier then green woody tones.

What it doesn’t do it produce a full on scent cloud around you when you walk down the street. And many wearers do say they’ve had lots of lovely compliments from others, so it does have enough strength for that.

Thinking differently about perfume

We want people to think differently about perfume - it’s not about full on, fragrance clouds that last for (sometimes) days and that fill a room when you enter. It’s about a subtle development that works with your skin, has uplifting benefits of essential oils and celebrates all things natural and sustainable.

It’s a risk buying an unknown perfume - I’m used to wearing names I’ve heard of - what do you advise?

We get that. If you’re starting to think you’d like to opt for a beautiful niche perfume with an ethos that you appreciate ie one of sustainability and consciously sourced ingredients, then you’re already half way there! It’s worth being open minded and curious and enjoying the exploration!

Why not try a sample bottle of Jones & Modha and you’ll get the purchase cost back using our redeem code on the card when you decide to go for a 50ml bottle.

What’s the benefit of choosing a natural scent?

We see so many benefits to choosing a natural fragrance - from your own health and wellbeing and minimising impact on the environment to knowing you’re wearing something unique and precious that’s made in small batches by people who care.

We hope that’s helpful and goes some of the way towards persuading you to try a natural eau de parfum. If you have any more questions, do get in touch!
